ABOUT

My art practice is rooted in habits of consumerism and a materialistic-oriented lifestyle. It engages with materials that are the ‘by-products’ of urban consumer practices and considered ‘waste’ or ‘unusable’. It uses ordinary (urban) consumer waste, as a viable raw material for art expression, where the medium is the message and attempts to spark conversations about the impact of our daily actions on broader narratives of a changing landscape and loss of habitats.

Informed by craft methodologies, my art practice revives and re-imagines heritage crafts and embraces collaborative forms of community craft- making. Craft like Origami, Basket weaving, Rajasthani Gota embroidery, etc inspire the process, blurring the line between art and craft.

Each piece is 100% hand-crafted and the entire process from waste collection, processing and installation is a community effort, involving urban artisans, NGOs and local traders for whom it is a viable and fulfilling  livelihood.

My art practice critiques the excesses of urban consumerism while exploring the intersection of sustainability, community, and craft. It weaves together themes of self-reflection, ecological awareness and community engagement.
